WHAT
LONDON WORKSHOP
KEA and The University of Westminster have a partnership and organize workshops annually. Site visits were organized as well as schoolwork. While being there, I teamed up with KEA and Westminster students to develop a 3D key junction from an English building we were given.
All tools provided were unknown for me and the rest. While developing key junctions through programs at KEA, Westminster gave us the opportunity to make a model with hands-on work. Our team chose a section of a floor to curtain wall connection. A 2D was made with REVIT, printed out on black cardboard with the help of a laser cutter. The 3D Model, therefore, required a lot more imagination. We created a mold on Rhino, which was cut with the laser cutter, to make a concrete casting to represent the concrete slab. All the steel connections were made with a 3D printer (to make it solid, since the steel lab was way more difficult to use than we first imagined.) The mullion was spray painted to give it metal color. We added prefabricated materials to make the heating pipes and the curtain wall. All elements were assembled with glue or bolts. It took us three working days to have this amazing hands-on work experience.
